What percent of WashU students get into med school? ›

Over 90% of our students get into med school—the first time.

The WashU ED acceptance rate for the Class of 2027 (ED 1 and ED 2 combined) was 26%. There were 4,517 applicants and 1,158 were admitted.

Approximately 600 individuals apply for admission each year, of which 100 or so are interviewed. The quality of interviewed candidates is quite high, and 99% of them are accepted by at least one MD/PhD program. Our goal is 25 new matriculants every year.

Overall applications decreased by 18.8% over last year (2022 to 2023) from 31,300 to 25,400.

Overall, it's fair to state that MD-PhD admissions are more difficult than MD admissions. However, because MD-PhD programs so heavily emphasize your research track record, you may be more or less competitive for them depending on your stats and extracurricular profile.

WashU will no longer consider demonstrated interest (such as visiting campus, attending an event, or emailing with a member of the admissions staff) as a factor in making admission decisions or in the admission decision process.
